I am a hiker, backpacker, survivor and activist based in Scotland and with a love of wild places. I read Modern Literature at university and I have worked as a designer and an organic grower. Since moving to the Scottish / English border in 1999, I have been doing day hikes and long distance trails on both sides of the border. I created Rucksack Rosie in 2012 with the aim of being welcoming sites for outdoor users. Like many bloggers, financial support or sponsorship would enable me to produce more new content, but I am presently writing occasional posts, adding routes and maintaining my sites.
I am constantly learning about the countryside, walking and camping, so I am happy to listen to constructive advice and undertake training. I aim to walk and camp responsibly, leaving no trace. To develop my skills and build my confidence, I use cognitive therapy techniques to set myself targets and appraise my performance and decisions.
In 2012, I began recording videos of my walks to accompany this blog, which have gradually developed from slideshows to “talkies”. All the resulting Rucksack Rosie videos are dedicated to anybody unable to do the walks for any reason.
I enjoy walking long distance trails and the independence of being self supporting. All my trails are dedicated to people who have been part of my life. Below are the trails I have completed so far.
Speyside Way. 65 miles / 105 km
Berwickshire Coastal Path. 30 miles / 48 km
Pennine Way. 270 miles / 430 km
Cumbria Way. 73 miles / 120 km
St. Cuthbert’s Way. 63 miles / 100 km
