About me

I am a hiker, backpacker, survivor and activist with a love of wild places and based in Scotland. I read Modern Literature at university and I have worked as a designer and an organic grower. When I moved to the Scottish / English border in 1999, I began doing day hikes and long distance trails on both sides of the border, before moving to Edinburgh in 2018. I created Rucksack Rosie in 2012 with the aim of being welcoming sites for outdoor users. Like many bloggers, sponsorship would enable me to produce more new content, but I am presently writing occasional posts, adding routes and maintaining my sites. Check the sidebar for links to my other sites.

RR Trails
Some snaps from my long distance walks

I am constantly learning about the countryside, walking and camping, so I am happy to listen to constructive advice and training. I aim to walk and camp responsibly, leaving no trace. To develop my skills and build my confidence, I use cognitive therapy techniques to set myself targets, appraise my performance and deal with online prats.

In 2012, I began recording videos of my walks which have gradually developed from slideshows to talkies.. The resulting Rucksack Rosie videos are dedicated to anybody unable to do the walks for any reason.

I enjoy walking long distance trails and the independence of being self supporting. All my trails are dedicated to people who have been part of my life. Below are the trails I had completed before the pandemic.

Speyside Way. 65 miles / 105 km
Berwickshire Coastal Path. 30 miles / 48 km
Pennine Way. 270 miles / 430 km
Cumbria Way. 73 miles / 120 km
St. Cuthbert’s Way. 63 miles / 100 km
Dales Way. 80 miles / 128 km
Hadrian’s Wall Path. 85 miles / 137 km
Borders Abbeys Way. 67 miles / 108 km
